Buddha on Conquering Self

Welcome to Make Daily! This email contains an idea, reflection, and a simple action you can take on your work today.

Idea 💡

"It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell." — Buddha

Reflection 🤔

We work tirelessly to solve external problems.

Financial, social, relational, and material. These forces whisper that we need to be more, better, or different without our permission.

But what if we started with the internal problems instead? What if you got to the bottom of why you feel the need to be more, better, or different before it bulldozes you?

You might find that many problems are not worth your time at all. A lot of anxiety tends to disappear when self-acceptance is the starting point.

Action ✅

Take your loudest external problem and ask "Why is this really bothering me? What is going on underneath?"

About the creator 👤

Siddhartha Gautama most commonly referred to as the Buddha, was a South Asian renunciate who founded Buddhism.
