Welcome the first edition of Find Something Cool!

It's been gloomy, snowy, and freezing here in New York.

January-February is always the toughest time of year, but we are managing to make it through. At least one person is happy about it (even though you can’t tell by his face)

☁️ Thinking: Don’t compare you day 0 with someone else's day 1000.

I love this tweet from Steph because it’s painfully true. We spend so much time comparing ourselves to other creators that its easy to lose sight of our own journey.

If you’re just getting started, remember that those that you admire were in the exact same position you are in now. Everyone starts at zero, so why can’t you be next?

Steph is full of wisdom like this. Check out our podcast from a couple months ago here where she gives a ton useful tips on time management and content creation.

📕 Reading: Alchemy by Rory Sutherland

If you were to start a soda company, how would you compete with Coca-Cola?

Would you use smaller cans? Charge more money? Make the taste kind of suck?

This was the strategy that Red Bull used, and it worked. The key insight is that they would have never landed on this concept if they approached their competition with ‘logic’.

Stories like these are what make Alchemy a must read for any creator who is finding it difficult to break through creative barriers. Oftentimes, the solution to our problem is not logical at all, and this is where creators shine.

This book has given me a jolt of creative energy that I didn’t realize I needed. Follow Rory here.

I’ve been enjoying the latest Bonobo record this past week. It’s filled with tycho-esque moments of ambient electro, while also blending some organic textures. It’s the perfect mix of energy and “focus” music when I am deep in work.

I love human interest stories and I love sports.

My favorite shows are human interest stories about sports.

While quarantining with Covid in December, I watched so many episodes of Drive to Survive it’s embarrassing.

I know what you're thinking... car racing, Alex? I thought that too.

But it's actually an incredibly weird, competitive, and fascinating world to enter. If you're looking for a quick binge, I'd highly recommend giving it a shot.
