The creative journey is not for everyone, but it is probably for you.
If you’re someone who never feels the pull toward growth or change, this journey is not for you.
If you’re happy within your comfort zone, and the results that come from your comfort zone, this journey is not for you.
If you’re someone who lets the voices of media, family, friends, or anyone else dictate your path without question or argument or openness, this journey is not for you.
If you don’t yearn for the magic of getting lost in a creative project, and clearly expressing your perspective to the world, this journey is not for you.
My instinct says that, if you’ve read this far, then this journey is almost certainly for you.
If you seek growth and progress in your creative work, then this journey is for you.
If you seek more productive systems and stronger personal accountability in your creative work, then this journey is for you.
If you get tripped up in the obstacles that come with the work but are hungry to find ways to overcome them, then this journey is for you.
If you’ve been fighting insecurities and anxiety over your creative work, but still muster the courage to hope for a day where you overcome it, then this journey is for you.
How we respond to life shows us what we are made of. For a lot of us, the creative journey is something sacred that is difficult to articulate. It’s just a certain kind of magic we are chasing. An “If you get it, you get it” type thing.
If you don’t feel drawn toward running and catching the magic, then I’d recommend going on another journey.
But if you’re hungry to catch it, the moments of honest connection, true expression, and deep fulfillment, then lift your head high today. Because you are on the journey. And, you’re walking the right direction.
So today, wherever you are on the journey, give yourself some love and encouragement. You are built to discover, uncover, wrestle, and rejoice in the creative adventure you’re destined to go on. It is all part of the process, and your voice and expression have space here.
The world needs what you have to say. So please, for us all, but most importantly, for you— keep chasing the magic.
