Welcome to Make Daily. A newsletter designed to help you turn ideas into action, and make something cool every day.

Before you jump in, take a moment to pause and zoom out. Detach from your emails, notifications, social media, the news, or anything else that might be pulling you away from what you want to achieve with your creative work.

Take a deep breath and set your intention on what you hope to work on today.

Idea 💡

“Did you hear about the rose that grew from a crack in the concrete? Proving nature's laws wrong, it learned to walk without having feet. Funny, it seems to by keeping its dreams; it learned to breathe fresh air. Long live the rose that grew from concrete when no one else even cared.”

―Tupac Shakur

Reflection 🤔

Creative work can feel like a 1,000 pound weight on your back. The journey of building anything is mixed bag of positive and negative emotions.

Excitement and Fear.

Possibility and Doubt.

Belief and Insecurity.

In our brightest moments, success appears inevitable. In our darkest, it appears impossible. Finding a way to persist through this uncertainty is the only option for modern creators.

The good news is that it's not impossible. Especially for those who "keep their dreams". You can't up on your dreams, no matter how improbable success might appear.

Action ✅

If my creative work is the rose in concrete, what can I do to help it grow today?

  • Do I need to toss more seeds? (create more opportunity for luck)
  • Do I need to water what is already there? (focus on what you have and not chase something else)
  • Do I simply need to believe again? (remind yourself that you can succeed in your creative work)

Deeper Dive 🌊

One of the most helpful books I've read on the topic of persistence and overcoming barriers in life is The Obstacle Is The Way by Ryan Holiday. It has served as a steady reminder to me that the path to success will be riddles with obstacles, and that it is my job to find a way to not only face them, but overcome them as well.

If you're short on time, Ryan does an excellent job of summarizing the book in 4 minutes. Watch it here
